Replacing a Felt Roof.
An existing felt roof under 10 years old with failing joints
Loose felt was removed to inspect the structural timbers for damage
New firestone membrane laid over existing mineral felt to minimise
disruption to the owner
Roof completed in just two days
The majority of the work was removing and reinstalling the concrete
ridge.
The actual installation of the membrane thus waterproofing the
roof was carried out in under four hours |

Local School Roof recently refurbished.
The refurb. included upgrade of the insulation to meet current
building regulations, then the membrane was fully adhered to the
compatible insulation.
Any areas of decking that were rotten were first repaired, then
the felt was reinstated allowing the old covering to be utilised
as the vapour control layer, preventing chance of condensation build
up within the roof space. |

This shows a method of ballasting the membrane.
This garage roof was completely refurbished as the felt had rotted
and caused damage to the decking and roof joists. Using the decking
as the ballast the owner was able to link the upstairs of the house
to the garden having installed a patio door. Knowing the membrane
will last in excess of 40 years removes the worry of membrane failure
thus making all other construction work cost effective |

Local Train Station - The picture
shows one of the methods of mechanical attachment.
The old roof was removed including the rotten decking.
New 18mm marine grade ply was then screwed to the existing joists,
visqueen was then used as the vapour control layer, then insulation
mechanically fixed, then the EPDM was mechanically attached to the
new deck with screws and metal battens.
The batten cover strip can clearly be seen. (These spacings are
calculated by the manufacturer to ensure the finished roof meets
the Building regulations for wind up-lift and will not blow off.

Classroom roof
Rotten felt had resulted in this school classroom roof sagging
in several areas, localised repairs were carried out, a 6mm ply
was then mechanically attached using pressure plates and screws.
The new membrane was fully adhered. |

Another great example of using ballast.
This roof was once waterproofed with slate.
This was removed along with the old roof trusses, new joists, insulation
and decking were installed.
The membrane is adhered only at the perimeter; the paving slabs
are fitted on plastic paving support feet to form the ballast. |

Showing the versatility of EPDM.
Normally if this valley gutter had been done in lead, it would
need individual pieces no bigger than 1.5m (or 4.5ft) in length.
This gutter lining was over 5m long and done entirely in one piece.
Labour time is reduced and material cost is less, but it will still
last over 40 years. |
